PICUM Annual Report 2014

PICUM published its Annual Report 2014 on the occasion of the Annual General Assembly on 13 June 2015 in Brussels.

Major highlights of PICUM’s work in 2014 included the PICUM Director, Michele LeVoy’s role as chair of the Civil Society Days of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) in May in Stockholm, Sweden; the launch of the ‘Words Matter’ campaign on accurate terminology in reference to undocumented migrants; a six-month project entitled “Promoting EU Action to Address Criminalisation of and Violence Against Migrants in Greece”, carried out jointly with several Greek, European, and international partner organisations, and the annual conference with members in June 2014.

Moreover, PICUM worked with its members to influence the transposition process of the EU Victims’ Directive (2012/29/EU) at national level; addressed in joint letters with other organisations the European Commission President Barroso, the European Council President Van Rompuy and all the Permanent Representations to the European Union, Members of the European Parliament, and the Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs calling for a rights-based approach to all migrant children; published a policy brief on the role of local and regional authorities in ensuring access to health care for undocumented migrants and launched a new working group on migration policies.
